PPI Hype vs. Table A Inside the Report from the BLS

September 10, 2025

Bureau of Labor Statistics, Producer Price Index (PPI)

I’ll call it, A Case for Big Number Followed by Little Number.

The Take from Distilled Perspective by Patrick T Bulger

Only after many low numbers does it leave the definition of volatility and become that of trend

1)    The trend in place has been one that left the 2022 bubble highs and
has reverted to current elevated levels.

2)    After consulting Table A.
This shows a margin squeeze that we’ve been commenting on for quite some time.

3)    Transportation and Warehousing remain elevated at 0.9

This type of, “Cheer The Number” narrative lacks context.
When taken in context it tells a differing Data Message.

•    In wise investing, you don’t want to be fooled.

•    You made the money.
•    Don’t be fooled into potential loss.
