As we move through March 2026, the disparity between market exuberance and economic reality has reached a level I haven’t seen since I began my career in 1997.
It may be time to cut through the spin.

📊 The ADP Reality Check

Don’t call it "robust" until you look at the trend.
Here are the private sector job totals for the month of February over the last 6 years (Source: ADP):

2026: 63,000 (Released today)
2025: 77,000
2024: 140,000
2023: 242,000
2022: 475,000
2021: 117,000

The Verdict:

We are looking at the lowest February numbers in half a decade.
Does that sound like "green shoots" to you, or a significant deceleration?

🔍 Beyond the Headline
The weakness isn't isolated. When you layer the data, a picture of risk emerges:

Challenger, Gray & Christmas:

Reported the highest January job cuts since 2009 and the lowest January hiring on record.

S&P Global Services PMI:

Came in below estimates and below January—a time when we should see a post-holiday uptick. This is viewed as weakness beyond seasonality.

US Car Sales (Bureau of Economic Analysis):

We are hovering around 1/3 of the historical norm, despite a higher population.

⚠️ The "Parabolic" Warning:

Look up a Parabolic Chart Pattern. Now, ask yourself: When has it ever stayed there?
