When we zoom out to the January-February period, the truth becomes visible:

• Top 5 Worst Start: The combined job cut announcements for Jan/Feb 2026 rank as one of the top 5 highest totals since 2009.
• The Comparison: This two-month surge is distinctly elevated over the last 4 years compared to the 2010–2022 period.
• Hiring Freeze? Hiring plans are down a staggering 56% Year-to-Date vs. the same period last year.

*The Verdict:

A one-month "dip" is noise; a Top 5 historical high in cuts paired with a hiring freeze is a Trend. These are not viewed as, "Green Shoots".
